Spring Awakening alum Remy Zaken will assume the title role in the family musical Freckleface Strawberry on February 4, replacing Hayley Podschun, who will play her final performance on February 2. The show continues its off-Broadway run at New World Stages, where it opened October 1, 2010, directed by Buddy Crutchfield.
Based on the popular best-selling children’s book by actress Julianne Moore, Freckleface Strawberry centers on a seven-year-old girl who is teased by her schoolmates for having bright red hair and freckles. The show features music and lyrics by Gary Kupper and a book by Kupper and Rose Caiola. Zaken joins a cast that currently includes Andrew Cristi, Julia Bray, Xavier Cano, Kimiko Glenn, Linda Gabler and Mykal Kilgore.
In addition to playing Thea in the original cast of Spring Awakening, Zaken has appeared off-Broadway in Captain Louie and Radiant Baby. National tours and regional appearances have included Ragtime, Annie Warbucks, A Tree Grows in Brooklynand A Little Princess. Television appearances include Gossip Girl and Law & Order.
